Where to charge your EV in Cambodia: the 2026 guide
Charging in Cambodia has come a long way. Here is where to find chargers, how to pay with KHQR, and how to plan around the growing network.
Read articleCambodia's shift to electric vehicles isn't just consumer-driven — it's backed by national policy. If you're buying an EV or planning to invest in charging, it helps to understand the direction the country is heading. Here's a plain-English overview.
Cambodia has committed to carbon neutrality by 2050, and transport is a major pillar of that plan. The government's long-term strategy sets ambitious targets for electric vehicles to make up a significant share of cars, urban buses and motorbikes over the coming decades. In other words, EV adoption is national policy, not just a trend.
To encourage adoption, Cambodia has moved to make EVs more affordable relative to petrol vehicles — for example through more favourable treatment on certain import-related taxes for electric vehicles. Because these rates and rules are periodically updated, always confirm the current figures with the official source before you buy.
Always verify current figures. Tax rates, duties and incentive schemes change. Check the latest guidance from the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, or ask your dealer for the current, documented rate.
If you want to sell electricity through public chargers, that activity is regulated. In practice this means engaging with the Electricity Authority of Cambodia (EAC) around licensing and tariffs, and coordinating with the relevant authorities on your electrical connection. Running charging as a proper, licensed service — rather than informally — is what makes it a sustainable business.
Policy will keep evolving, but the trajectory is clear: Cambodia is building the conditions for EVs to become mainstream. For businesses, that's a signal to prepare charging infrastructure now, while the market is still early.
EV Cambodia gives operators, hotels and property owners the CSMS, driver app, ABA PayWay/KHQR payments and local support to launch paid EV charging.
